It will teach you:
With this proven system, it is possible to get hundreds of thousands, or even millions of views in a short period of time. Interested? I put together this free video oulining all the straegies that I teach in my 6 part E-course. You don’t want to miss it.
It used to be that a band had to work to get their song played on the radio. Then comes playing out at local bars, or maybe even coffee houses and school, in an attempt to grow a following and build a fan base. It could take years of hard work an commitment to even get to a point where the local magazines pick up on you, let alone a record company. The dream of getting signed by a major label to a big record deal is one that musicians of every stripe have lusted over for decades. But with the current situation in the music industry, that dream is becomming harder and harder to attain. Why?
It’s as simple as that. Even if you DO get signed (and good luck by the way), the days of spending millions of dollars on music videos to promote new artists are OVER!
Some people call the 90′s the “Golden Age” of music video. Back then it was not uncommon for a record company to spend up to $10 million on a video for a new artist. That’s because they could count on record sales to recoup the lost. No one was actually BUYING the videos. They were just shown on MTV. Millions of people would see that video and race to the store to buy the album.
NOT ANYMORE!
Those days are long gone. Nowdays, record sales are down. Heck that’s an understatment. Record sales are DEAD! And record companies are not blowing huge budgets on music videos. What’s more, MTV barely shows music videos anymore. Most of their programming consists of reality TV. The videos that do get made, find their way to YouTube. The record company’s recognize that YouTube is the future of music video. They are even cashing in on the fact that many fans are willing to make the videos for them!
Just ask Apple. In April of 2003, they surpased Wal-Mart to become the #1 music store in the US. Although, there are still more CD sales than digital downloads, the trend indicate that that will cease to be the case.
So as an independant musician:
Music store are dropping off the map like flies. And the big box retailers like Target and Wal-Mart only carry CDs big established musicians that they can sell in volume at discount prices to people in their stores. So the only real viable route is online music sales.
Now let me ask you this:
A record company traditionally serves 3 purposes:
Let’s examine each of these trditional roles to see if they are still applicable.
With the advent of Pro Tools and and affordable, powerful PCs, many independant artists for producing entire albums in their basement! Maybe you have already done this. With a very small investment in a good microphone, a midi controller, and a computer, talented artists like you are producing records the sound indestinquishable from something done in a major label studio. That goes double for purely electronic artists and hip hop.
As mentioned before, record companies used to spend a fortune on promotion. Now they are even resorting to holding YouTube video contests. I’m sure you’ve heard this one,”Guess what, Fans? We’re putting YOU in the director’s seat! All you have to do is write a treatment, shoot a AWESOME video, edit it, up load it to YouTube, and you’ll have a chance to be famous! Oh and we’ll PAY you $1000!”.
Then hundreds of those hardworking, adoring fans, work thier butt off to produce a music video. All together its easily hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of production. In the end, the record company hardly has to lift a finger. They just pick the best one and their are only out a measley 1000 bucks! Then the winning video skyrockets in views and everybody goes, “Wow. I could’ve done that.”
Well guess what? You could’ve! It’s easy to produce a killer video for YouTube. All it takes is a little imagination and some basic production skills they you will learn in our e-course.
Record companies used to hold the keys to the distribution of music. Unless you were signed, it would be very difficult (not to mention expensive) to mass produce thousands of CDs and then get those CDs on the shelves at record stores. But with digital downloads, there is no cost for replicating and selling the same file over and over and over. Apple is making a killing at this with iTunes, and you don’t need to be signed to a major record label to get your songs on iTunes.
The simple answer is to follow this link and just fill out the application.
Then wait for them to get back to you if you are lucky. Apple reviews thousands of applications at a time so it might be a while. You can improve your odds by having a great website and proving that you already have a following (I’ll talk about that in a moment).
Of course not! As you probably already know, it is possible to sell your song through MySpace using a service called SnoCap.
Other options include Rhapsody, and Amazon. But those are just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve included a bonus chapter in the e-course that tells you exactly how to get these set up as well as other lesser-known options for selling indie music online.
Never before have there been so many options available to independent atists.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Even if you record and produce your own music and make it available online through one or more of the various online distibution services, how do you know people will buy it?
Well…you don’t. Honestly, if your music sucks, nobody is going to buy it. Sorry. But even if its great, you still have to turn people onto it first. That means promoting it.
When people see a great music video, they instantly make a connection with the artist. When they can see you, as well as hear you, they get wrapped up in the story. Outside of a live show, a music video is the best way for a fan to get to know an artist, and when that video is posted on the internet, then your audience is potentially everyone with an internet connection.
Music videos add a whole new dimension to a song, giving it new meaning. In short, music videos are the best way to promote your band online. By producing and promoting your music videos online, using the techniques and strategies outlined in this free video and the companion E-course, the will be no limit to your success and you will have everyones attention, including the record labels.
Today’s independent artists are empowered with the tools to create their own destiny and their own image. My course will teach you, step by step, everything to need to know about producing a music video and promoting it on the web.
